It's A Good Day

Friday night update

Today was a big day for Miss Matti. We know she might have bad days too but we are celebrating how great she does for everything so when I tell you we celebrate hiccups and opening eyes, we aren't kidding. :)

Matti is off the cpap breathing mask and on an oxygen line - yay!!!

She lost more weight, down to 2# 1oz but we knew she'd lose some.  It is normal for any baby to lose weight after delivery.

She started feeding yesterday but there was a lot of residual food so they were resting her belly last night  (they said  she might be gassy from cpap) and may resume feeding later today.

I lucked out and caught them at their rounds last night so I got to change her diaper.  I knew what I was doing but was glad the nurse helped me manuever her because she is tiny! And feisty man oh man.  She was kicking and crying and generally throwing a fit.

Then I  held her in my hands inside the incubator while they changed her sheets. And that was great.  Especially when she settled down for me.

Daddy arrived and helped wiped her mouth while she ate cause she was making a mess blowing bubbles.

And the BEST part was we got to SEE her!  Her hat was off, her mask is off (so just the oxygen line that runs across her face and under her nose), and her 'glasses' were off. (The foam over her eyes to protect her eyes from the jaundice UV light.)   She opened her eyes for us and seemed to look for us when we talked to her.  Her eyes seem to be dark stormy blue grey right now.  So maybe she'll end up with brown like mama, but we're thinking more likely blue or green like daddy's.  Her hair is jet black and she has quite a bit.
