I'll Take Fries With That

Mattigan has been promoted to eating 2 double bacon cheeseburgers with a small fry.  Which is roughly equivalent to 5 cc's of preemie formula.  She has been sucking on her fingers and yesterday found her thumb to suck on when she starts to get hungry.  That is awesome.  She's relating the idea of sucking to being hungry.  So we give her her pacifier when she is being fed to promote Matti learning that behavior gets her a full belly.  She'll most likely not start on the bottle until she is 34 weeks old but sometimes they do start earlier.  The nice thing is that nowadays the doctors go more with what the baby is indicating they are ready to do and less with sticking to what the textbooks say.

Matti is being switched every 3 hours between a mask and nasal prongs for the cpap so the mask doesn't push on her nose too much.  (The first time right after she was born the mask and high pressure were breaking the skin on the bridge of her nose.  It's still turning it red so they'll put a barrier of this fake skin that will help with that.)  Today they turned the cpap down from level 6 to 5.  Next stop: Oxygen line with high flow and no cpap.  Then oxygen line with low flow (which is where she was at previous to all the PICC line chaos).  And then off the lines altogether.

[Update: Matti's moved off the cpap and to the high flow oxygen!  And Oma came to visit.]

If you didn't see it, make sure you check out yesterday's post.  Daddy got to hold Mattigan last night for the first time!
