"Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came"
Cheers to our happy, go-lucky, sweet little bundle of energy!
Happy one year homecoming anniversary Mattigan!

One year ago almost to this exact moment we got a call from your doctor to say that you were going home today. We packed all our stuff at Oma and Opa's house, frantically throwing it into suitcases, tote bags, and plastic bags. We cleared off our dresser and cleared out leaving behind clothes still swinging on their hangers and a forlorn flip flop meanwhile telling our puppy we would be back for her. Driving to the hospital our hearts pounded in anticipation and seized up in fear that we would arrive only to find your big day would be postponed. It was surreal how quickly we signed papers, filled bags with your tiny bottles, itsy clothes, and as many hospital goodies as we could stash. (Why yes, we do need extra pacifiers, diapers, formula, gauze pads...) You were bundled into your car seat and with barely any fanfare we were ushered through a back hallway, the closing clang of the giant metal NICU doors echoing behind us in the sudden hush. And so your hospital stay ended as it had begun. Suddenly. Unexpectedly. Your journey home was a couple corridors, elevator ride, and short car trip ahead. Our hearts soaring with happiness and love; our family went home.
